Therefore, today its important more than ever to take charge of our thinking and direct it in a direction where we can get desired results in our life in every domain.
The quality of our lives is nothing but the quality of our emotions. If we experience happy emotions our life is happy, if we experience elevated emotions, we are motivated, and feel successful and content, etc.
Emotions arise from what we perceive of a situation to be, remember the half glass research, in which a glass fill by half with water was kept on a table, and a couple of people were asked to describe what they see, half of them said the glass is half full with water, and the others said that the glass is half empty. Same glass perceived different.
With our perceptions we start giving meaning to our experiences, and the meanings we give triggers different emotion.
Therefore, twin forces of life are meaning (given by us to everything by our perception) and emotion (arising of those meanings).
MEANING + EMOTION = LIFE
The good part is that Meaning is in your control, If you become the master of meaning and how to control it, you become the master of your life.
Before you start working on your new life, get rid of anything that could interfere with it. When I have clients who want to lose weight, I tell them to clean out their refrigerator and pantry of any items that no longer align with their new way of eating. The space that is created can be filled with new healthy items to better serve them. You must do this with all aspects of your life. Get rid of any books or magazines that tell you that you are broken and need to be fixed. Replace them with inspiring content.
Declutter your home of things you don’t use or need anymore. Ask yourself if they fit into your future life. If not, donate them, sell them, or throw them away. Make space in your environment for items that feel like your future. This is a very powerful step. Don’t skip it.
If your goals don’t scare you a little, they are not big enough. Once you know who you want to become, dream big. Think big. Go for the big prize. Your future self is counting on you to really go for it. She is cheering you on with lots of love. She knows you can do it. When you set big goals your life will change in dramatic ways. To create the life you desire you can’t play small.
Be specific about what needs to happen. If you want to lose weight, don’t write down “make a healthy lunch.” instead write “eat a Niçoise salad” or you’ll be looking around at the last minute for something to eat. If you want to write a blog post, don’t just put on your calendar, “write blog post” or you’ll never get it done or you’ll take all day wondering what to write about. Write down specifically what you need to do. Don’t be vague. “Write 800-word blog post about calendaring.” That way you have a specific goal in mind and you’ll know when you’ve achieved it.
While you are going through this process of change, you’ll be working hard, you’ll be putting in long hours. There will likely be stressful days. Remember to also schedule in time for your health check-ups, for exercise, to cook healthy meals, to rest, and to have fun. Put these things on your calendar just like you would any other task. No matter how busy you are, you have to make time to take care of yourself. If you don’t, then what is the point?
A cluttered home can lead to a cluttered mind. Take a few minutes out of your day to straighten up your surroundings. That doesn’t mean deep cleaning every nook and cranny of your house. Simply make an effort to pick clothing up off the floor, make your bed, clean your dishes, and live a tidy life. Creating these habits can have a broad effect on your outlook on life, helping you to have a clear mind and become more focused on important tasks at hand.
It is absolutely essential to give your body the time it needs to recharge the batteries each and every night, and getting a full night of sleep is a big part of living a happy and healthy life. Studies have found that getting adequate sleep can help you live longer, improve your memory, and increase awareness and creativity. Experts recommend at least 7 hours of sleep each night, and any less than that can result in a bad mood and low energy levels.
Make each day part of a perpetual quest for knowledge. Learning is an essential component of happiness, satisfying our minds need for stimulation and to be challenged. It also can help put our lives in perspective as we gain knowledge about all of the trauma occurring around the world. Go online and find an interesting article, how-to video, documentary or something else that will challenge you and try to spend at least 15 minutes a day gaining knowledge. You will find yourself quickly becoming a well-informed, well-rounded and happier individual.
Too often, it can become easy to get caught up in what we don’t have, be it lamenting a lack of a fulfilling career, a luxurious lifestyle, or a successful relationship. However, instead of spending all of that mental energy on what you don’t have, instead celebrate what you do have. We are all blessed with so many gifts to be grateful for, so try to create a list of all the things you are grateful for each and every day. It can be something as major as good health to something as minor as somebody holding a door open for you. Be mindful of how amazing life truly is.
You shouldn’t do anything that is not going to improve your life in some way. Learning how to create the life you desire is about loving your life. I talk a lot about creating the sweet life, in whatever way that means to you. Have fun with it. Make enjoyable goals for yourself. Don’t put limits on your happiness. Create the life you crave.
